Chez Manon is surrounded by farmland, yet is only 2 kilometers from downtown Apt, where you can find bakeries, supermarkets, cafés, restaurants, banks, a cinema, even a hospital. The house sits on 6,000 square meters (1.5 acres) of land and is situated at the end of its own shrub-lined cul-de-sac driveway.
In addition to the main house, there is a separate outbuilding with fully equipped laundry, covered parking and bicycle storage.
The ground floor, with doors that open to broad north and south terraces, consists of a large, open plan living, dining and kitchen area with exposed beams and terra cotta tile floors, a separate living room with TV and stereo, a library/computer room , and a toilet with hand basin.
There is an open wood-burning Provençal-style fireplace at one end of the main room with comfortable seating as well as an enclosed fireplace in the TV lounge area. Wood for the fireplaces is included. The house itself is centrally-heated in winter by under-the-floor environmentally-friendly, geothermal technology, which provides cooling in the summer to -5° C below ambient. Electric fans are also provided.
The kitchen area is a cook’s dream with central island, granite surfaces, a double oven “Paul Bocuse” Rosieres cooker, a large American Whirlpool double door fridge/freezer, built-in Miele microwave and dishwasher, double butler’s sink, and ample pots, pans and utensils, as well as a full range of small appliances, including food processor, toaster, toaster oven, coffee maker, and electric kettle.
The dining table easily seats twelve. There are plenty of dishes and cutlery.
The separate “cozy” living room has comfortable seating, British satellite TV, French digital TV, DVD and VCR players, stereo and an assortment of music and films for young and old alike.
A few steps down from the main living room is the library with a desktop PC, printer/copier, and WiFi internet access, as well as books, local guides and maps, games, and a spare trundle bed.
The five bedrooms are upstairs.
Three bedrooms have queen-size beds (160 cm wide), two of the rooms with en-suite shower rooms.
One bedroom has twin beds (90 cm wide), which can be transformed into a king-size bed (180 cm wide.)
The 5th and smallest bedroom has a single bed with trundle and is connected by a heavy double door to one of the queen-size bedrooms, as well as having a separate door to the hallway. This room is suitable for children or a single adult, although the single bed and trundle can be made up into one king size bed, if needed, with the understanding that the space is a bit tight.
In addition to the two en-suite shower rooms, there is a 3rd, separate shower with sink and a separate bathroom with bath and shower. There are two separately accessible toilets with hand basins on the upper floor.
A paved stone terrace overlooks gardens and a fountain on the south side. On the north side, a broad paved stone terrace, with 180 degree views of the Luberon valley and the Vaucluse mountains, is shaded by a vine-covered trellis, which makes it ideal for al fresco dining. Both terraces are connected on the west side of the house, along the enclosed pool area. A gas barbecue is provided with gas bottles supplied.
The grounds include a cherry orchard, landscaped terraces and a “secret” garden with a hammock hung among the trees. The gardens are maintained by a gardener throughout the year.
The 5 x 10 meter heated swimming pool is on the west side just off the terraces, with uninhibited views of the Vaucluse mountains and the Mont Ventoux. There are ample pool loungers and parasols pool-side and seating on both terraces. The pool is available from approximately May through September and is professionally maintained throughout the season.
Below the main house, on a lower terrace, are the laundry, covered parking for 3 cars, and a bike shed.
The laundry has two washers and one dryer, indoor racks for drying and an outdoor clothesline.
